As the Memorial Day holiday nears and we prepare for a long weekend with family and friends, it is important that we stop and think about the reason for the holiday. Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that remembers the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Celebrated each year on the final Monday of May, Memorial Day has been celebrated since the end of the Civil War.
We have a lot of pride in America... for our country, for our lifestyle, for the talented people who choose to call the United States home. At Hickory Chair, we have great pride in the talented people who choose furniture making as their vocation. In our 102 years we have enjoyed generations of families who have spent their career at Hickory Chair. Over the years we have supported men and women who have choosen to serve in the National Guard. Upon their return from active duty they were able to return to Hickory Chair as well as to their families.
We count on the nearly 700 artisans and craftsmen at Hickory Chair to make one of a kind pieces to order each day. It is their passion for making one-of-a-kind pieces that has allowed us to transform and keep our jobs in Hickory, North Carolina when so many companies have been forced to move the production of their furniture offshore. We are proud to have expanded our team of artisans and craftsmen from approximately 500 to nearly 700 in just the past 12 months!
It is the collaboration between our craftsmen that has allowed us to make individual custom items instead of large batches of the same item. Making them one at a time allows us to make them the size they want, the finish they want, the hardware they want and even custom construction to change the way it is made to fit the family's needs.
We American's love freedom and have fought for it since we became a country. It seems to us that the freedom to have something made just the way you want it at Hickory Chair is a very American idea.
We are working hard to improve our processes, quality and value along with improving our lead times. With your continued support we will continue to give you the freedom to have it made just the way you want it at Hickory Chair for the next hundred years.
